Russians Vs. Whild

...just an idea …anyone wants to try hard-core hiking for a couple of days. No equipment, no tents, no backpacks, no supplies. Just a knife. Will have to get from point A to point B, with one night in the wild, catching our own food, getting water, setting up shelter and making fire. ...what do you think?

I did something crazy like this back when I was 18. We went up to the Cohutta Wilderness Area back in the "70's (when it was still wild as hell) We stayed for three days and two nights about 14 miles from the nearest dirt road. We about starved to death. Thank God for the Jack's river, pure drinking water fresh off the mountains. Trust me, we were sitting waiting for our ride out of there about two hours before the guys was supposed to be there. We drove straight to some trailer burger place that was cooking hamburgers. We had three of everything.. End of story Ain't been back.... Ain't going back. Always judge others by the same standards as you would want them to judge you

Just thought I would throw in a few more tidbits about that crazy trip in 1977. We saw about 30 black bears, some very close. ( yes, we ran like hell and aren't ashamed to say it...) I had a black water snake swim directly between my legs while I froze trying to make him think I was a log... (it musta worked cause he didn't bite me.) We laid there at night listening to the mountain lions cry and the bears thrash around in the dark under our little leaf shelters, as well as listening to our stomachs growl. Spent the whole two nights in shifts with my buddy, trying to keep the fire up so that the wild animals wouldn't come near the camp. A spooky thing, looking at two jeweled eyes reflecting the firelight off them in the dark, knowing some sort of animal was sizing you up but you couldn't tell what it was. This whole trip qualified as one of the STUPIDEST things I ever did in my whole life. And I wouldn't have traded a minute of it later. But you made it! I guess it is a men thing. You were a bad boy (your poor mother).... I was surprised, that there was an area of such wilderness only 30 years ago! And so close to civilized area. I am an urban person; saw wild rabbit only at 40 when moved to USA.

Jkash, whole area is bordered by Benton, TN down to Chatsworth, GA on west side, and ends bordered by Blue Ridge and Ellijay, Ga on East side. It is appx 100 miles north of Atlanta on Ga-TN-NC lines Whole area is still wild today. Bears migrate down from NC and Smokey Mountains. No paved roads, best trout fishing in GA. What about this? ;) My (Corrected) version: ...just an idea …anyone wants to try hard-core hiking for a couple of days. No equipment, no tents, no backpacks, no supplies. Just aNO MONEY, NO knife. Will have to get from point A[tlanta Airport] to point B[uford City], with one night in the wild, catching our own food, getting water, setting up shelter and making fire. ...what do you think? ~48 miles, exactly for 2-day walk... Sorry KSP, some guy up in Dalton was arrested over the weekend for bringing an alligator he captured in south Ga to North Ga and planned to let it go in Carter's lake (see Dalton Daily Citizen News appx Friday or Sat) Carters lake is one of the largest lakes in North Ga between chatsworth and Ellijay. So, avoiding the alligators may be problematical....LOL Always judge others by the same standards as you would want them to judge you

So, you think on that way we'll have problems crossing some areas with wild black bears, right? КСП Атланты: Everybody Welcome! - e-Mail: kspatlanta@gmail.com Live Journal: http://ksp-atlanta.livejournal.com/
