Did anybody install a tankless water heater?  How much did it run you?

I am actually considering this too...  Anyone???  Anyone??

It looks though this tankless water heater needs to be installed near each sink, shower in your house, etc. So it would require purchasing and installing several of them? Where would the savings be derived?

No, it's the wrong kind.  The ones we are taking about are similar to "газовые колонки" in the old Soviet buildings.  Except the are good for 2-3 bathrooms.

    Re: Gas provider.

You can get them for about $600-700, but in my case there is no vent in the room where the water heater is, and cutting that probably will cost an arm and a leg.

No, these are the same. Go see the link I posted. These are required for each faucet.

    Re: Gas provider.

These things pump something like 4-8 gallons per minute.  That's enough for 2-3 showers at the same time.

actually, lenghth of a shower is infinite, unlike using a tank.  Issue with this device is "bandwidth", not duration Big Smile

Do you really think your water heater pupms more than that?  Let's see, 50 gallon one starts pouring cold water in about 10-15 minutes, right?  Do the math.

    Re: Gas provider.

Well, remember, it all depends on how hot you keep your water heater.  It doesn't spit out the 50 gallons right away; it dilutes the stored water with cold water appropriately to match its heat setting to the level of hotness you selected on your shower control :)

Good warm water should last a good 30 minutes I think...

OK, let's split hot/cold 50/50, 50 gallon tank, 30 minutes of warm water.  Still comes to less that 4 gallons per minute.

    Re: Gas provider.

I used to live in an apt. a long time ago with tiny electric tank..i think it was like 30 galloons.  So to take showers of appropriate length with the numerous women that kept visiting my apartment, i had to bring the ratio of hot/cold to like 10/90.  This was accomplished by taking apart the thermostat on the elctric heater and removing the safety (stopper) that prevented the thermostat from being turned up higher.  I figured anything below boiling would be ok since there is a safety valve.  I did this gradually over time, until the valve began releasing steam and water like a dormant volcano, at which point i turned it down a little and lived that way for 3 years filled with erotic escapades and pleasures, the extent of which cannot be fully conveyed in a forum setting.
