    Presidential debate

    one big circus:-)

I think Obama did somewhat better. But I liked McCain much more.

there is something appealing about an old dude who's calm and methodical.. I like calm people.

    Re: Presidential debate

Agree w every word in this post :)

Where they are horribly wrong, they are wrong about equally.

Where they are both right - McCain has reputation and experience, but Obama is asking for blind faith.  Albeit, more eloquently Big Smile

Where they actually disagree (in terms of foreign policy), is mostly an issue of semantics.  For example - afghanistan - they agree essentially, but they frame differently.  Even abt Iraq that's true to some extent.  Notice, Obama no longer wants a withdrawal that is either prompt or complete, now that Hillary is out of the way.  I told you all this would happen Big Smile

I wouldn't be at all surprised if the conflict in Iraq is over quicker under McCain then under Obama.  And possibly, with results other than 100% total loss in every aspect, which is what a withdrawal would have been. Too bad these are bets i can never prove i won.. Big Smile

Real disagreements seem to be in taxation and health care at this point.  On these kinds of things, McCain is, of course, right. Someone should do a poll of educated economists, I would guess 90% support McCain.  Ironically, it is the same middle class that would benefit most from an economic recovery and a return to long-term expansion, that misunderstand the effect of corporate, capital gains, and other forms of upper class taxation on these factors.  instead, everyone is in some kind of communist stupor, all of a sudden hating CEOs. How original. Big Smile

So that's what it boils down to for me, but I expect, as I always did, Obama is more likely to win.  Esp. in light of the economic crisis charade.  We haven't even had a recession yet (official definition).  What a gift for Obama.  If these guys lose again, this is borderline comedy.  Up against a party of perpetual  mistakes and miscalculations, and constant public humiliation.

    Re: Presidential debate

Obama is more likely to win, among other reasons, also for the fact that more and more people realize what a gimmick Sarah Palin is, who would be one heartbeat away from becoming president..  No wonder she is being kept away from the media..  Her recent interviews with Couric were a total abomination, so friggin stupid it's not even funny..  Citing foreign experience because of the border with Russia and trade missions, some meaningless blabbering on the 700bn bailout plan, just plain dumb..  Just to to youtube and find those Palin interviews, it's truly eye-opening.  I mean, any of us here would do way better.  I am REALLY looking forward to the Biden-Palin debate next Thursday I think.  McCain is really shooting himself in the foot with Palin, they should just lock her up so she wouldn't do any more harm to the campaign by opening her mouth.

    Re: Presidential debate

Obama bothers me.   He talked for ninety minutes and at the end, you really didn't hear him say too much you could call a position on anything. This is his standard operating procedure.  Say nothing important so that when you modify your ill thought up position later, nobody can really pin you.

As for Iraq and this whole idea of a pullout timetable, this whole idea was stupid, and I mean STUPID from the start.  Now, if I were an enemy general, and I knew when you were going to withdraw, I would husband my forces and hide until I saw your tail lights, Then I would attack in full force and defeat you,  a la Vietnam.  Barack Obama's plan would have resulted in full defeat for US forces and he still would have blamed it all on Bush afterwards.

Your observation, Egor, is correct in my opinion also that they disagree mostly on semantic issues concerning foreign policy, except on the aforementioned point.

Also, I would like to see Obama put forward his economic stimulus plan featuring higher taxation on the wealthy being supported by any reasonable economist.  Maybe that is why Obama is sticking with the "economists" on NBC and CNN.

I, too, agree it is likely that Obama will be our next president.  I don't think McCain can enunciate the fallacies of Obama's liberal philosophy in a way the independent voters are likely to turn against Obama.  He should talk about the difference in Abortion policies favored by Obama and him, and the fact that Obama favors same sex marriage,  Further, he should point out that Obama's own party will NEVER let him drill for more oil or build ANY nuclear power plant,  There is a substantial history available to McCain to prove this point.  He should talk about these hot button issues starting today.

Damn... McCain's campaign shoulda hired me.  I could win it for 'em.Wink

    Re: Presidential debate

    Good morning to all.

About a debate... This would be my fist time I can vote in USA, and I have been following the presidential race. If any of you have children you likely to notice that McCain only taks about the war, and how he loves and will take care of the Veterans!(I agree that we need to take care of all the elderly population as well as show more respect to the Veterans), BUT not ONCE McCain mention CHILDREN! and making sure that OUR CHILDREN WILL have good education, good health care and good future! Obama, on the other side DID!!!!!!!!!

I have a 2 year old girl and we are planning to have another baby... I find it SAD that we are talking about a possibility to move back to Russia in order to afford better HEALTH CARE for my family and to "wait-out"  economical MESS this country got BECOUSE of the current Bush policies and war spendings!

My husband is an American and we have been married for almost 10 years, we have a small bisiness and this economy is REALLY hirting us right now. That's why I WILL wote for Obama this November. As I believe that he will bring SOME positive changes to this great country!

    With respect to everyones views

    Re: Presidential debate

    same sh!t, different faces ...

All they do is talk and talk, and after don't do what they talked about. Odd thing about people that are going to vote for Obama just because he is "black", like it's going to make him a better president. Not saying the other guy is better.

    I'm voting for Карандаш

    Re: Presidential debate
