Over the summer, my wife and one of our two children received their green cards.  (finally!!!).   This momentous event leads us to several other questions.

First, How long do we have to wait until she can apply for citizenship and what is the wait after you apply before you actually become a citizen?

Secondly,  Can you apply for a US travel passport with a green card?

Info would be greatly appreciated.

AFAIK, since she's married to a US citizen, she's eligible to apply for citizenship in 3 years, don't know if it is applicable to the kid.  And yes, she can apply for a travel document, but she can as easily travel on her Ukrainian passport.

412,  yeah, we knew about Ukrainian passport but lawyer advised we apply for US travel document.  Also, passport expires in 2011 and we have discovered what a HASSLE to get renewed by Ukrainian embassy (Fort Knox) in Washington.  So we are considering a "plan B".  We are still not legally married, does it change things?

You can start applying in 3, do finger prints etc.... by the time all is done it'll be 5 and she'll get the passport !

With "green card" you can get travel doc and travel with it..
