    cameras

I've know I've asked about cameras before, but I never got around to purchasing a new one and the old recommendations are probably obsolete by now.  Even my cell phone takes better photos than my inexpensive battery sucking Kodak and I really need to replace it.

Some of you have posted really great digital photos.  Can you recommend a decent digital camera that costs no more than $300?  Is it even possible to get a good one in that price range?

If there is not a specific model, are there must have features I should look for?  Versatility is good, but mostly I want to take photos of buildings, inside and out.

I went exploring today.  I thought I knew every tree, every gate, every window in this area, but I found new things and new places.  I also saw a lot of familiar places that are changing, and not for the good.  I need to preserve it all and until they crown me Queen of Midtown, I thought photos might be the best way.

Any Canon.  Even A models have their advantages.

A good resource to check out is http://www.dpreview.com/

This site has reviews of different cameras, buying guides, and explanations of different terms and features.

I do own a Canon camera and I am happy with it, but I know people who are very satisfied with other brands.

Thanks for the link.  One of the most important things to me is avoiding that delay from the time you press the button to the camera actually snapping the photo, but I don't know what it is called.  I'll look over that site and see if I can find it.

I've been looking at flickr.  The person whose interior photos I've most admired over the past couple of years uses a Nikon D80, but that is more than twice what I'm willing to spend.  I notice that it has 10.2 Megapixels.  I realize that I probably will not get that in the range I want, but what is the minimum Megapixels for which I should settle?

On Amazon, there is a Canon (PowerShot SD850 IS 8.0 MP Digital Elph Camera with 4x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom) for around $230.

Leah, it calls shutter lag. As for quality of pictures it really depends on who's behind the camera, not camera itself. Megapixels are also not important. If you are not going to print posters, 6 MP is more than you need. As a rule of thumb shop for bigger lens. Bigger is better in photography ;)

In that case, I should save my money by skipping the camera purchase and just take a pencil and sketch pad with me...

Thanks for the info about the MP and lens size... good to know... I'd have gotten hung up on the wrong things :)

Yes, but Canon cameras are more forgiving.

Then I will definitely take the advice here and get a Canon.  I need something forgiving.  If I showed you any of the photos I've taken, you'd probably agree that they aren't very exciting.

The more expensive camera is less forgiving. The most forgiving one is the cheapest :)

    That's right, under $300. Smile

I know not everyone likes to shop at WalMart, but still ,, they get some of the lowest prices on a lot of product.

And yes - it is pink. so for female - would be a perfect one, and I've heard  Olympus has a good reputation.
